Drouant

Founded in 1880, this Parisian institution is also the headquarters of two literary awards – the Goncourt since 1914 and the Renaudot since 1926. It has recently been revamped. Rest assured, though, the Ruhlmann staircase is still there, as are the elegant private lounges. The menu features the great French brasserie classics that are vol-au-vent, sole meunière and the storied Proust madeleine. The wine list is remarkable, originally put together by France’s top artisan sommelier Antoine Pétrus. There are 2,000 listings, nearly half from the Rhone Valley, and over 30 wines by the glass. Lunch menu for €48. Weekly choices with dish of the day for €28-40.
